Symptoms of Spring Allergies

- Watery eyes
- Postnasal drip
Testing for Spring Allergies
Spring allergies are often diagnosed with a skin prick test or an IgE blood test.
A skin prick test involves placing drops of suspected allergens on the skin. Then, a needle is used to prick or scratch the skin. If your body is allergic to the allergen, swelling or redness will occur.
An IgE test measures how much of an allergen-specific antibody, immunoglobulin E or IgE, is in your blood. The more allergen-specific IgE in your blood, the more likely you are to be allergic. Blood tests are often used to confirm the results of skin tests.
Treating Spring Allergies
Spring allergies can be treated with immunotherapy, available as drops or shots.
Allergy Shots
Allergy shots, or subcutaneous immunotherapy, are the most common form of immunotherapy. They work by gradually exposing your body to the allergen, with the goal of building immunity or tolerance to it.
Allergy Drops
Also known as sublingual immunotherapy, allergy drops work similarly to allergy shots but are taken as a liquid under the tongue.
